The hop gene bank is a public service that ensures long-term genetic diversity and conservation of biodiversity in agriculture. The complete hop collection at IHPS includes all Slovenian varieties (17 Slovenian and 2 German, which are registered in the Slovenian national variety list) and over 200 wild male and female accessions, which are maintained on hop trellises. The collection of hop accessions was gathered from natural hop habitats on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia, the former Yugoslavia and in the Altai and the Caucasus, where hop primary originates.
The hop gene bank is maintained on hop trellises and partly in tissue culture.
