Marjeta Eržen is PhD student of Plant Biotechnology Study. Her doctoral thesis encompasses cannabinoid analysis, such as CBD, THC, CBC, CBG, as well as the analysis of essential oils in different hemp varieties and their phenotypes. They are primarily interested in whether there is a phenotype within a particular variety with a desirable higher content of non-psychotropic cannabinoids and low THC content, and whether these phenotypes can be distinguished from each other based on their chemical composition. Additionally, she is studying the antioxidative activity and total polyphenol content in hemp inflorescences. In the field of genetics, she is targeting specific regions of the hemp genome using the technique of capture probes in order to find regions that are associated with interesting hemp traits, and to determine the population structure and genetic diversity of different hemp varieties.
